A creatively designed website can give your business the edge over your competitors. It is by some distance the most effective and inexpensive way to advertise your business and engage with customers.
What will a Welcm website do for your business?
Help you reach new customers
Today most people will head for Google when they require a product or service. If you don't have a website or have an outdated website you will be missing out on potential business. Your website is available and promoting your business all day, every day no matter what you're doing. A website is a great way to attract and win customers.
Help you build brand awareness
A website is an extension of your business and your brand. You can show your services and products in detail and let the website do the selling for you. Visitors to your website can take their time to discover what you offer, allowing them to make an informed decision to do business with you. You have control over the content of your website so you can tell your customers everything you feel they need to know and you can do so in as much detail as you wish.
Give you more information about target market
A website will help you understand how your target market buys, who they are and what they want. You will learn about how people search for your services and how they interact with your website. The more you learn about potential customers the better your chance is of beating your competition to the customers and increasing your sales. Finding this valuable information out is very difficult and expensive without a website. With a website all this information is free and easily accessible whenever you want it.
Communicate quickly and easily
A website opens up ways to communicate easily, cheaply and effectively with your customers. People are already discussing your business and comparing them with your competitors so get involved. With a website you can engage directly with your customers using channels you control. We can advise you and set up automated email marketing, social media accounts, blogs and news.
Whether you are looking to create a website from scratch, redevelop / migrate your existing website, integrate your site with a CRM or other 3rd party system, or simply need images converting to HTML / CSS, our skilled developers will be able to help. A small snapshot of our services is as follows.
We adhere to responsive web design principles so all websites we create will look great and function perfectly on any device, from mobile phones to large format 4k screens and everything in between. We use a “mobile first” approach to design. This means we optimise our code for mobile devices first and scale up components as required. This decision is based on the fact that smartphones are the most widely used devices to access the internet. Therefore ensuring a great experience for users accessing your website on the go is essential.
Content Management Systems
Our Laravel based websites can be managed using various content management systems (CMS). If you are looking to redevelop your existing site we can work within your existing CMS. If you have already selected the CMS you wish to use that is fine too. If we are developing your site from scratch or you wish to migrate to a new CMS we recommend using Statamic which is built on Laravel. In this instance we build the CMS to exactly match your requirements. You can find out more about Statamic below.
White Label Websites
Whilst we are able to design and code websites we also work with designers and design agencies who already have their website designs in place. Designers that do not have in-house development skills will generally deliver signed-off designs to us in the format of layered Photoshop files. However we can work with any number of formats or simply work with you based on your ideas alone, using our skills to make sure we bring your designs to life exactly as you intended. Depending on the website in question we will deliver either a dynamic website running off a content management system (CMS) or a static HTML site. With our white label service the designer / design agency retains the credit for the website.
Whatever you need from your website we will be able to achieve. If using our chosen CMS, Statamic, we will be able to do so very cost effectively leaving you with a website that will look great to your users, contain all the features you want, function brilliantly and be a pleasure for your content managers to look after. Standard skills we can employ are the creation of eCommerce sites, integration with CRM systems, securing your site with Laravel authentication tools, integration with third party tools / systems and adding a customer portal, all of which can be multi-lingual.
Image to HTML Conversion
As a business we have worked with a number of content management systems (CMS) during our time. Whilst there are plenty of good content management systems on the market we have a clear preference in Statamic. The reason our recommended CMS is Statamic because it cuts out the database, is highly flexible, can be customised perfectly for your website, it is highly secure, has a very low cost of ownership and is built on Laravel - the best PHP framework there is by far.
Why not Wordpress?
Well, if you are looking for a generic looking website with a few blocks of text including your company information then Wordpress could be fine. However if you want a flexible and easy to use CMS then Statamic is the way to go. It can be customised precisely just for you. There will be no unnecessary fields and no unnecessary areas causing clutter and making the CMS much harder to navigate your way through and learn to use. With a Statamic Control Panel you only see what you need and use.
Wordpress may seem enticing because it is free, in reality, it is not free and generally the cost of ownership is significantly higher than Statamic. For a larger website you will need to purchase a number of Wordpress plugins to achieve your goals. Backup utilities, custom forms, improved caching, search and much more are all included in Statamic whereas you will need to pay for all of these features in Wordpress.
Statamic is built on Laravel which is incredibly secure. Wordpress is built on an old codebase and its plugin system leaves it highly vulnerable to attack. Approximately 90% of hacked websites run on Wordpress. It is by far the most vulnerable CMS around. Most of these hacked websites run the most up to date version of Wordpress so simply keeping the installs up to date is of little protection.
Is it easy for content managers?
In a word, yes. Statamic is regarded by content managers as being significantly easier to use than Wordpress and other CMS’s on the market. It is used by organisations large and small. As it can be tailored to fit perfectly with your website, the size of your organisation and website has no bearing on how well Statamic will work for you. As we build the perfect CMS for you, content managers can explore pages and collections with ease. They can then write, edit and publish from any device anywhere.
With your perfectly tailored control panel there will be no fields or sections that have no purpose. This makes the system much clearer, easy to learn and pleasant to use; all of which makes your content managers’ job better and allows them to be more productive… and happier!
If your website is image-heavy Statamic is going to make a big difference to your content managers. The asset manager within Statamic allows you to see all the meta data you will need, preview videos, a variety of document types and customise content globally. Alongside this, images can be manipulated easily. Crop them, move them, resize them, add a filter… the list goes on. Your content manager will even be able to set a focal point on images. This allows the most important part of an image to be on view no matter what dimensions it is presented at.
If you run a multi-lingual website Statamic will manage it all on your behalf. Simply select the languages you wish to be available to your users and Statamic will translate your site without the need for any plug-ins, add-ons or additional modules. You can even have different site structures for each individual locale.
Why flat files and not a database?
Statamic stores all your content and configuration in files rather than using a database that you are unable to get at or version control. Storing everything in files allows you access to them, share them and gives you the ability to edit them in whatever text / code editor you like to use. You can even do so via GitHub.
With this format you can easily replace content across your site in one go making updates much simpler and much quicker. You don’t have to create schemas in advance, instead you can build out your content model on the fly.
Version control makes syncing with a live site easy too. As you make changes to your website you can have them automatically committed via git. Your site will be able to run on virtually all PHP servers and full sites can be sent in a single zip file. This format has taken a great deal of the complexity out that has become common with modern technology. With Laravel based Statamic you get the best of the best, most modern technology without all the complexity that normally goes with it.
There is also a point to be made around scaling issues. The structure of MySQL databases makes this harder and more expensive to manage and load balance. With the file structure employed by Statamic it can easily integrate with NoDB environments.
Have I heard of any of the companies using Statamic?
More than likely, yes. There are thousands of companies that rely on Statamic to manage their website. From huge news companies and Fortune 500 companies to individual bloggers, Statamic is a trusted partner. A small sample of the globally recognised brands is Disney, Der Spiegel, FreshBooks and OpenTable.
